Over the weekend, in celebration of me turning two decades old, we(my parents and I) went to this little cafe nestled in the Upper Thomson stretch.

We ordered Duck Confit ($15.90), BBQ Ribs($16.90), Pork Ragout Pasta($14.90), Rootbeer($3.20) and WARM APPLE CRUMPLE ($9.90) for dessert. All these came up to about $62 and because we paid with an UOB card we got a complementary Duck Rillette!

Started with an appetiser of Duck Rillette. Never tried anything like this before so we were a little wary. oooooo It turned out to be quite nice. Warm bread with a cold spread of Rillette, went together really well. Pardon my unrefined description, it tasted abit like luncheon meat, don't think theres any duck luncheon meat available in the market, but if there were, this is what I think it will taste like or at least taste similar to.

Mains are next!

Duck Confit ($15.90). I was stoked when I saw that the online menu have got this duck confit. I'm in love with duck confit since I ate it a year ago at Shelter in the Wood. I was eager to try this one out. The skin was crispy and the meat tender and so eat to debone. Sides of Sautéed mushroom with vegetable and Mash Potatoes complemented the dish. My mom especially liked the sautéed mushroom with vegetable. The mash potatoes were really smooth. This dish is well seasoned and cooked but i can't help but compare it to the ones I ate at Shelter in the woods. This is a 7/10 that was say 8.5/10. The price difference is significant too hahahhah, almost double the price. I must say though, for the amount of effort and time needed to cook this dish, it is value for money.

Pork Ragout Pasta ($14.90). Pork Confit, herbs, cheese and spaghetti in tomato base. Very generous with the pork confit but perhaps due to the base(sauce) it is not crisp (at least i think it is supposed to be). Not bad, the herbs are used moderately, well cooked and seasoned. Good but nothing exceptional.

BBQ Ribs ($16.90)

My Mom wanted to order this, but BBQ ribs at a french restaurant? Really? hahahhaha. I liked the fries, the ribs taste good, tender and easy to eat. Got a large rack of meat (8 bones?) at this price I will think its a steal! In all honesty, if you want to eat BBQ ribs go to an American restaurant. Check out Morganfield's they have affordable ribs there :D

Warm Apple Crumble ($9.90)

Warm apple crumble with vanilla ice cream.

I think I have a thing for food with combination of hot and cold. You don't get cloyed eating this. I can only complain that the portion is too small (ok fine, its decent sized, just that I'm greedy and want more). The vanilla ice cream was not too strong that it overpowered the apple crumble below, the milky taste gave the crumble below another another level of flavour. The apples were well cook enhancing both flavour and texture for the dessert.

I really liked that it is not too sweet, the taste is not the kind that will explode in your mouth, but something if you savour slowly, the fragrance will emerge. I like this very much. What a way to finish the meal!

Unfortunately, they will be relocating soon. Their last day at Upper Thomson will be on 18 October 2017. They do have other outlets so you might want to go check them out! I recommend the warm apple crumble! Overall, I think that this is a nice place with good food. More for day-to-day than for special occasion though. Will visit them again! Till next time -W
