The TryTriad are back again!! This time, at Triad3’s (me) recommendation, we went for Brunch at Botanist then dessert at Apiary. (Saturday,13 May 2017) Whew.

We walked from Chinatown MRT to Botanist, there were some construction going on, we took about 12mins to walk there. Outram Park MRT is way nearer. (Tried and proven). I blame Google Maps for the extra distance walked. Anyways, we ordered a Meat of the Day and an Egg Florentine to share.

Egg Florentine ($19)

Egg Florentine -portobello mushroom, wilted spinach, avocado, poached eggs, tomatoes, chive hollandaise, toast.

I liked the portobello mushroom, cooked to the optimum level. Soft enough but not too soft and still juicy. The bread goes well with the hollandaise sauce and mushrooms. We like eating runny yolk so we didn’t waste just to take a photo of it opening. The eggs were poached well. The wilted spinach was okay but a little salty.

Meat of the Day ($20.90)

Meat of the day was initially some pork ribs or something, I can’t remember, but it was changed to pork collar. I am so glad we ordered this. (It is so much more worth it than the egg florentine. oh well…). It came with wilted spinach and sautéed sliced potatoes. DAYUM! It was crisp and flavourful, complementing the pork collar. I really like the potatoes that I think it could be a side of its own. The wilted spinach was better seasoned here, not salty, leading me to conclude that the Chef might have double seasoned it in the Florentine. PORK COLLAR, juicy and tender. Biting into it is such a bliss. This dish came together better and we liked it way more than the egg florentine. We decided to go over to Apiary for Round 2 but….. it was closed. (Opens at 11.30am and it was around 11.10am.) We walked around, which resulted in a bonus round. LOL.

French Toast

French Toast ($?)

Tong Ah Eating House

Ordered French toast, Iced Coffee and Iced Calamansi with Sour Plum, which totaled to around $7.

The kaya which I believe is homemade, is really traditional, with the taste of coconut milk, the texture, one fantastic kaya that cannot be store-bought.

We walked back to Apiary after this.

Triple Scoop with Waffles ($16.40)

Triple Scoop with Waffle. The flavours are (left to right), The Apiary, 69% Belgium Chocolate and Vanilla Bean.

The ice cream are fantastic. I like the chocolate, the vanilla was quite similar to The Apiary, the latter with coconut and a tinge of honey. A little disappointed with the waffle, decent but not that great. Maybe it was the ice cream, but i could barely taste the waffle, and it lacked a little crispy-ness on the outside. However, the waffle and ice cream still went well together. Personally, I will prefer the ice cream in a cone.

All the three cafes are close by it about a 2-5mins walk between each.

What a foodful day! There are still many cafes around the area that I will want to go visit someday, till next time!
